Hi

I have been to the dentist today and have been told I need root canal treatment. The last time I had this was before I began Enbrel and I was advised by the rheumy nurse to wait until after the treatment to start the Enbrel as root canal treatment was considered invasive. I am now in a dilemma because the treatment lasts 6 weeks and I don't really want to have to stop Enbrel for that long. The dentist said that he does not consider the treatment invasive and does not think I need to stop treatment.

Any comments would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Sue

Hi Sue,

I recently had root canal treatment and did not stop my humira and had no problems. The only time I stopped it was when I had antibiotics for the tooth abscess, and had started it again before I had the root canal treatment.
It would be best for you to check with your rheumy nurse though.
Good luck with the treatment, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!

Love Doreen xx

Hi Sue

As Doreen says do check with rheumatology. I'm pretty sure root canal would be considered as an invasive treatment! Stopping Enbrel for 6 weeks is not recommended as iit will be out of your system by the time you restart it and may not kick back in; personal experience 2 years ago after stopping Enbrel for knee surgery and being given wrong advice!

Hope you are able to sort something out.
